I know it’s been a while since my last post, but here is finally my third one. And as it is an old tradition, it will be in English again.
On Saturday, May 2 York, Kevin, Rafael and me left early in the morning to catch our flight from San Francisco to Ft Myers, Florida. It was a 10h trip with stopover in Philadelphia. After the arrival in Ft Myers we went straight to the rental car pickup to get our convertible. Next, we stopped at a supermarket to buy some essentials, i.e. Corona and limes, grabbed dinner at Perkin’s and then drove to Ft Myers Beach to enjoy a beer and live music at the beach. After that we went to our beach house on Sanibel Island.
The next day, Sunday, was dedicated to the beach and the pool. Everybody got a little sunburn, but we could treat those well with a lot of aloe vera gel from the CVS drugstore. The Gulf was much warmer then the Pacific, but the pool was (fortunately) not as hot as our hot tub.
Monday was shopping day. So we went to two outlet centers (Miromar & Coconut Point) and spent some $$$ for apparel and shoes. York got rid of his old shoes immediately.
Since Florida is not just beach, palms and Disney World, we went on a trip to Atlantic coast, more specific Miami, on Tuesday. We took the route through the Everglades, so I (as an experienced airboat driver) could take the guys on an airboat ride through the Florida swamps. Of course we were able to see alligators.
In the afternoon we finally arrived at our hotel in Miami Beach. After a pretty expensive lunch at a weird Japanese restaurant we went to the beach and the pool. The lifeguard almost went out for York, because he swam out too far.
Then we started planning for the evening/night and decided to go to some “Rock ‘n’ Roll” bar/club. As we didn’t know where exactly the location was, we asked the reception lady and she told us, that the place is not that cool anymore and we should rather go to the Mansion, which is THE club in Miami and should be fun on Tuesdays. As it turned out, since it was during the week, they only had one floor open, the HipHop/R’n'B floor. It wasn’t very crowded as well. Thus, York spent the whole night talking to the toilet guy and I was glad to leave early.
Miami is famous for its celebrity people. So we went on a boat trip to see their expensive mansions. I’ll let the pictures speak:
After the boat trip around the Miami harbor, we drove back to Sanibel. And on the next day we drove jet skis in Ft Myers Beach. Unfortunately we don’t have any pictures of that, but it was a lot of fun while driving as fast as 45 mph. In the evening York wanted to test his old tennis skills against some newbies and challenged us to play against him.
On our last full day in Florida we rented a power boat and York drove us to Cabbage Key Island, where we had lunch. On the trip we saw dolphins and went swimming in the ocean. Later that day we went to Ft Myers Beach again to relax at a nice beach bar and enjoy the evening.
